The most important of the world's very few Brahma temples, by the lake where the creator himself performed his great yajna. The Kartik Purnima fair — bathing festival and camel fair together — turns Pushkar into one of Rajasthan's greatest gatherings; the town remains meat- and alcohol-free.
Brahma's lotus fell to earth and springs welled where its petals struck — Pushkar, 'the lotus pool'. When his wife Savitri came late to the yajna and found Gayatri seated in her place, she cursed Brahma to be worshipped nowhere else on earth but here.
