A white marble-and-stucco palace-temple of sixty rooms in the heart of Mithila — the grandest monument of the Maithili world, marking Sita's birthplace city. Vivaha Panchami re-enacts Rama and Sita's wedding each winter, when baraat processions arrive from Ayodhya itself, binding the two nations' sacred geography.
King Janaka, ploughing the ritual field, turned up a golden casket bearing the infant Sita — earth's own daughter; where his plough struck is shown at nearby Sitamarhi and Punaura, and Janakpur keeps her dowry-city memory alive in Mithila art on every wall.
